Claude "Payment Method Not Available"? The Fix
This is a geography check, not a bank decline. Anthropic's processor has matched your card's issuing country, your IP, or your billing address against a region where that payment method is not supported — so your card is never even sent to your bank for authorisation.
Try these first — they are free
- Confirm your billing country on the checkout form matches your card's issuing country.
- Turn off any VPN — a mismatch between your IP country and your card country can trigger this on its own.
- If you hold a card issued in a supported country, use that card with its real billing address.
If one of those works, stop here and pay Anthropic directly. It is cheaper than buying through us and we would rather tell you that than sell you something you do not need.
Why those usually don't work
If your card genuinely was issued in an unsupported region, there is no combination of settings that clears this check. People at this point usually go and rent a virtual card — which adds a monthly fee, a KYC process, and a second thing that can be declined. A gift code sidesteps the payment step entirely.
The route that does work: an official gift code
A gift subscription removes the card from the equation entirely. Someone buys the subscription from Anthropic and gets a redemption code; you enter that code on your own account. There is no card to be declined, no region check on a payment method, and no recurring authorisation for your bank to refuse next month.
