Claude 402 setup_intents Error Explained
A 402 on the setup_intents endpoint means the processor tried to save your card for future subscription charges and your bank refused the zero-value authorisation used to validate it. Anthropic never gets a usable payment method, so the subscription cannot start — even if you have money and the card works elsewhere.

- Retry once — a small share of these are genuine transient issuer timeouts.
- Use a card that permits card-on-file storage; some prepaid and virtual cards refuse zero-value authorisations by design.
- Clear the saved payment method in your Claude billing settings and add it fresh rather than editing the old one.

Why those usually don't work
