Claude Card Declined? Pay With Crypto Instead
This message comes from Anthropic's payment processor, not from Anthropic. It means your issuing bank returned a decline code — most often a generic 'do not honor' — and the processor has no more detail than you do. Because the decline happens at your bank, nothing you change on Anthropic's side will fix it.
Try these first — they are free
- Enable international and online transactions in your banking app, then retry once.
- Use a credit card rather than a debit or prepaid card — many issuers block recurring foreign charges on debit only.
- Check that the billing address on Anthropic's form matches your card's registered address exactly, including postcode.
If one of those works, stop here and pay Anthropic directly. It is cheaper than buying through us and we would rather tell you that than sell you something you do not need.
Why those usually don't work
If your bank's policy is to decline recurring US software subscriptions — which is the case for most issuers in India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Egypt and Algeria — retrying just produces the same decline. The block is a rule, not a glitch.
The route that does work: an official gift code

There is no card to be declined, no region check on a payment method, and no recurring authorisation for your bank to refuse next month.
